I visited Austin for the first time when we brought Sneek to SXSW 2018 and instantly fell in love with the cities remote working capabilities. “Keep Austin Weird” is painted all over this vibrant city and I once ran into a local who described it as “the blueberry in the tomato soup of Texas”…

Whatever that means, I like it.

It feels like this place was built with laptop-nomads in mind. You’ll rarely ever be the only person on a laptop, whether you are in a bar, cafe, or a record store, practically everywhere you go keeps the remote worker happy and productive.

The list goes on and on but we thought we’d share our top three remote working spots in Austin, Texas — keeping in mind that we definitely haven’t had the time to fully explore this amazing city!

Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors

Figure 8 in East Austin is a favourite of ours because of the friendly and funny staff, but the coffee is nothing to joke about — they know what they are doing. the laid back vibe, industrial chic decor, and artisan bites attract some of Austin’s coolest musicians and artists — like Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butthead!

Cosmic Coffee and Beer Garden

This South Austin bar/coffee shop is always filled with people getting some work done remotely. Featuring specialty coffee, locally brewed beer, craft cocktails, and some awesome food trucks (I’d personally recommend Pueblo Viejo!), if none of that convinces you to drop by, then their lovely permaculture garden will. A great place to wrap up your day with one last coffee before switching to a local beer!

Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall is one of Austin’s most legendary live music venues, but it’s also a great spot to hang out and do some work during the day. Founded in 1974, the history of this place is what makes it onto our list. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Townes Van Zandt, Shaky Graves, Gary Clark Jr. and many more have graced either the stage or the pool table. They don’t serve coffee so it’s more of a Friday afternoon spot, but while the Austin climate shifts and more and more yoga studios and trendy clothing stores pop up, Hole in the wall remains a staple of what Austin once was, and what it always will be.
