In 2021 freelancing seems like the way forward in a multitude of industries, both for companies and freelance workers. Whether you are an aspiring digital nomad and remote worker in it for the freedom, or someone looking to make some extra cash from a side hustle, your dream collaboration could be just a click away. It isn’t just the freelancers benefiting either, hiring in the super connected modern world means that the pool of talent is bigger than ever, and your perfect candidate could be on the other side of the planet. As a remote company ourselves, we are big supporters of hiring globally, but whether you are working on location or remotely the best way to connect freelancers to their dream companies and vice versa is through freelance websites.

Here are 5 great sites that are connecting freelancers and employers:

Upwork: Used by Microsoft, Airbnb, General Electric and more, Upwork is a great option for both the talent and client and is currently the world's biggest freelance marketplace. Need to find and hire specialized talent? The Talent Marketplace has got you covered. Looking to sell a pre-scoped project? Project Catalog is the way to go. If you need to assemble a team of seasoned experts quick then you can go down their Specialized Teams route, you can even work with their experts to find the best talent via Talent Scout. Processing and administration fees vary depending on the service, with clients being charged somewhere between 3% - 10%, but some countries have the option to pay a monthly fee of about $25 instead. With all of these options available for employers, and over 60k jobs posted weekly, Upwork is a great option for anyone looking to utilized their specialized skills that won’t be properly appreciated on sites like Fivver.

SimplyHired: This broad platform advertises work in almost any industry, making it a great place to pick up some extra work. Whether you work in a warehouse or a doctors office, SimplyHired can find a client for you. Some of the great features of this site are their blogs which provides hiring tips, and their salary estimator allows you to compare rates with local and national averages. These features, and the fact that they advertise work in over 24 countries and 12 different languages make it perfect for someone who is looking for immediate work or someone looking to change profession.

Liberty Hive: The COVID-19 pandemic turned the entire job market upside down, but it also presented an opportunity for the traditional hiring model to be turned on its head — and Liberty Hive is a brand new freelance media talent hub doing just that. Co-founders Laura Braithwaite & Kate Merritt are more than armed for the task, with a combined media experience working at Dentsu, Omnicom, Havas, WPP, Publicis Zenith, ITV and The Telegraph, and the former chief executive of Starcom and Amplifi Pippa Glucklich as chair — talk about a stacked team. Something that really draws us to them is the way that they are challenging the conventional expensive commissions and lengthy hiring times that have become an issue in the industry, focusing instead on using their expertise to connect trustworthy consultants and employers quickly. Liberty Hive is in the Beta phase of its launch but we already see great things in their future, and they are currently offering free membership to all with two complimentary job posts for companies.

Remotive: Remotive isn’t just a place to find/post work, it’s a full platform for remote workers or people wanting to become remote with a huge supportive online community. Starting off as a blog/newsletter by Buffer employee Rodolphe Dutel, the platform was completely revamped in 2019 to include a job board, webinars, a massive Slack community, the Newsletter where it all started, and more. The site lists 2,500+ companies hiring remotely, and even a list of salaries posted by remote workers all over the world. One of the things we love about Remotive is the interface; it’s easy to use and very fun, making combing through possible work opportunities an enjoyable experience.

Artisan Talent: This U.S. based boutique recruitment agency boasts an impressive list of accolades from industry giants like Forbes, Inc, and Time Out, and is focused on building relationships with the people that they are connecting. They say their biggest realization was that they are humans helping humans, which they’ve proved to be true having contributed more than $275,000 to various charitable causes since 1988. Unlike some of the aforementioned sites, Artisan Talent only has 33 jobs posted at the time of writing this which implies that they really go the extra mile to get to know the needs of the freelancers/clients they work with, and they’ve got a great advice column and helpful blogs to further drive home what they are all about.
